Cancer warning labels to be placed on flea collars

A settlement has been reached between manufacturers of flea collars and the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Effective immediately, new labels will have to be put on flea collars sold in California warning that the collars may contain a cancer-causing chemical. The NRDC says the chemicals can penetrate the skin of pets and get on people's hands and are especially dangerous for children.

Retailers and manufacturers disagree. They say the collars' chemicals are not in high enough levels to pose a health risk to humans or pets.
