Volunteers to honor MLK with day of work

RICHMOND, Calif.

At 9 a.m., community groups and volunteers will meet at the Richmond Greenway at 6th street, 16th Street or at Carlson Boulevard and Ohio Avenue to plant edible, butterfly and medicinal plants; beautify Berryland and Lincoln School Farm; weed; mulch; remove litter and design a mural.

Also at 9 a.m., more community groups and volunteers will meet at Shimada Friendship Park at the end of Marina Bay Parkway. This group will be winterizing the Bay Trail with mulch to prevent the invasive ice plant from growing back, removing fennel and other invasive species of plants, and picking up trash.

Everyone in the community is invited to the events. People who wish to participate should bring work gloves and sturdy shoes, Gioia said.
