Leaders hope to prevent crime during Lunar New Year

San Francisco city leaders Wednesday began a campaign to promote safety and crime prevention during the upcoming Lunar New Year celebration.

District Attorney George Gascon, as well as police and other city officials toured Chinatown Wednesday. They urged businesses owners to help them keep the streets safe during the celebration.

The 2011 Lunar New Year parade takes place on Feb. 19. It is a tradition that dates back some 150 years in San Francisco.
