Police search for suspect who hit a crossing guard

MILPITAS, Calif.

At approximately 8:10 a.m., a driver in a light brown or possibly white sedan made a right turn from eastbound Midwick Drive onto Arizona Avenue, striking a crossing guard working in the intersection, Milpitas police Lt. Sandy Holliday said.

Several school children had just finished crossing the road before the guard was hit, Holliday said.

The driver reportedly stopped briefly after the incident but then fled.

The crossing guard sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the collision, Holliday said.

Police described the driver as a 45- to 50-year-old Asian man with black hair and glasses. A female passenger was riding in the car as well, officers said.

The man could be charged with a felony hit-and-run if found, Holliday said.
