Safeway sued over product recall notifications

PLEASANTON, Calif.

The suit calls for the Pleasanton-based chain to notify its club card members when items they have purchased have been recalled.

A San Francisco school teacher is spear-heading the effort along with the Centers for Science in the Public Interest.

Safeway says it follows the government mandated recall notification process and claims notifying club members would be difficult because information may be out of date.

Other chains, including Costco and Walmart do e-mail club members who have purchased recalled products.
