A new report reveals some of the huge pay days San Francisco public officials received when they retired recently.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports city records show former Police Chief Heather Fong got a payout of $528,000when she retired in 2009. That included her base pay of $187,000 plus more than $300,000 in unused vacation, sick and comp time. Fong also gets an annual pension of $229,000 for life.

Former Deputy Chief Charles Keohane got over $500,000 in his final year in addition to a six-figure pension.

San Francisco is not the only city with big payouts. Several retired BART cops were among the highest paid public servants in the state. BART commander Travis Gibson earned $355,000 in his final year by selling back unused sick and vacation time and commander Maria White was in the top earners with a total salary of $282,000.

The information was discovered by Controller John Chiang who is investigating government salaries following the pay scandal in the city of Bell.
