The Marin County High School pitcher who was nearly killed by a baseball last year is back on the field playing the game he loves.

Gunnar Sandberg, who is now a senior, returned to his first day of practice Monday. The team's coach says Gunnar could start at shortstop or third base this season.

He threw out the ceremonial first pitch for his team's game at AT&T Park back in May.

Last March, a ball hit off a metal bat hit Sandberg in the head. He suffered a fractured skull. Marin County high school baseball teams all switched to wooden bats after Sandberg's accident.
