Israeli Consulate celebrates African diversity

In celebration of Black History Month, the Israeli Consulate to the Pacific Northwest is partnering with local groups in Oakland to celebrate African diversity as experienced through Israel.

The event at City Hall coincided with the opening of a new Ethiopian-Israeli exhibit that went on display outside Mayor Jean Quan's office. The consul general of Israel explained the connection between Israel and Black History Month -- he says their story starts at the same place -- the exodus from Egypt.

The Israeli Consulate's tribute to Black History Month will include programs that feature artists, speakers and exhibits throughout the month of February.
