The shooting occurred Friday after police began pursuing the suspect's vehicle around 4:30 p.m.
It's not clear what led to the chase or how long it lasted. Police tell the Vallejo Times-Herald that officers opened fire after the man exited his vehicle and pulled out a gun. The suspect has not been identified.
Police say the gun was recovered after the shooting.
This is the second shooting involving a Vallejo police officer since December.
