The 2011 Amgen Tour of California announced Thursday that volunteer opportunities for the mid-May Stage Four finish in San Jose are now posted at the official race website.
The race will travel through more than 800 miles, beginning with its first-ever visit to Lake Tahoe and finishing in the Southern California community Thousand Oaks, where Amgen is based.
For the stage finishing in San Jose on May 18, cyclists will depart that morning from Livermore and climb a final ascent to the summit of Sierra Road, which represents the race's first mountaintop finish.
"Just as we couldn't have a race without the participation of top professional cycling teams from around the world, we simply could not operate this event without the support of the thousands of volunteers who help make this world-class race a reality," tour organizer Andrew Messick said in a statement.
More than 4,500 volunteers statewide participated in last year's event, with 300 of those providing support in San Jose.
"Our volunteers have been an outstanding group of people who are...committed to making San Jose shine," San Jose Sports Authority Executive Director Patricia Ernstrom said.
