More fatal accidents involve cars with missing airbags

One in every five fatal accidents involves a vehicle with a missing or malfunctioning airbag. Often it is all part of a fraud where the mechanic said the bag was replaced, when it wasn't.

A 7 On Your Side investigation first pointed out the problem years ago, now finally action is being taken. California State Sen. Leland Yee has introduced legislation that goes after mechanics who say they have replaced or repaired airbags, but haven't.

Those convicted would be looking at a $5,000 fine and a year behind bars.
