Friends of the San Jose Mounted Unit announced Thursday they have raised $70,000 to fund the horse patrol for three more months. They are committed to raising $280,000 in total to cover costs through June 2012.
The unit -- with about a dozen officers and horses -- was threatened by the city's budget crisis.
