Get paid to get rid of your lawn

ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif.

The Bay-Friendly Gardening Program and Alameda County Water District are encouraging homeowners to replace their water-guzzling lawns with sustainable gardens. They are offering up to $500 for homeowners and up to $3,000 for multi-family and commercial customers who make the transition.

The county says lawns account for about half the water use of a typical home in the county.
