San Mateo County kids will be doing jumping jacks in tandem with kids around the country Tuesday afternoon in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record for people doing the jumps at multiple venues at the same time.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County are participating in the event, and organizers expect more than 200 kids, parents and staff to join in the jumping at the South San Francisco club, located at 201 W. Orange Ave., executive director Sharon Dolan said.

Dolan said people at 800 Boys and Girls Clubs around the country will start doing jumping jacks at 3:30 p.m. and continue for at least two minutes.

She said the current record stands at 278 people.

"We'll probably have that many people at our club alone," Dolan said.

The Guinness World Record bid is meant to bring attention to the importance of young people living healthy, active lifestyles, Dolan said.

Dolan said she plans to participate.

"Oh yeah," Dolan said. "I've got my running shoes ready."
