The 2011 edition of AAA's "Your Driving Costs" study estimates the annual cost for a typical sedan driven 15,000 miles a year is $8,876, up $289 from a year ago.
That estimate may be a bit low. The study was based on the late 2010 average gas price of $2.88 a gallon. In California last month, the average price was $3.91, an 84 cent increase.
