A pedestrian was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in Richmond on Friday, according to an Amtrak spokesman.

At about 6:20 p.m., southbound train No. 542, traveling along the Capitol Corridor, hit a pedestrian trespassing on the tracks near the Richmond BART station, Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Cole added.

No other injuries were reported.

Cole said that the 225 passengers and crewmembers aboard the train were transferred to southbound train No. 544.

Trains in both directions were delayed for about 2 hours and 20 minutes, Cole added.
