The stabbing was reported shortly after 1:05 a.m. near Mission and 16th streets, according to police.
The victim, a 27-year-old woman, got into a fight with a man who cut her on the leg with a machete and then fled, police said.
The woman was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for her wound, which is not considered life-threatening.
The suspect, described only as a Hispanic man between 35 and 40 years old, is still at large, police said.
Less than an hour later, at 2:02 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at 17th and Mission streets.
The shooting victim, a 29-year-old man, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital. His injuries are also not considered life-threatening, police said.
The shooter has not been located.
