Lawmakers consider tiered system for sex offenders

California lawmakers are considering a measure that would create a three-tiered registration system for sex offenders.

They would register for 10 years, 20 years or life, depending on how serious their crime was. The bill's author says it will help focus limited resources on those most likely to re-offend.

The bill now moves to the Assembly appropriations committee.
