The detours will allow Caltrans to construct some temporary lanes and then build a connection to the new Bay Bridge now under construction.
The new bridge will touch down right where the westbound lanes are now.
The work will not require closure of the bridge itself, but it will allow Caltrans to open the new bridge to traffic ahead of schedule.
