The senior "S" paper pass will be phased out completely by Friday. These events are designed to accommodate the estimated 16,000 senior Muni riders who have not signed up for Clipper cards, according to the SFMTA.
Nearly 35 percent of the existing 24,000 "S" pass customers have already signed up for the Clipper card, which can be used on Muni buses and light rail vehicles.
The SFMTA has already phased out monthly paper passes for its "A" Fast Pass, disabled discount pass, and "M" pass.
Seniors, those at least 65 years old, can sign up for Clipper cards at Muni ticketing machines at any metro station, participating Walgreens stores, or by calling the Clipper Service Bureau at (877) 878-8883.
Proof of identity and age is required when signing up for a senior Clipper card, which can be shown through birth certificate, driver's license, state identification card, or passport.
Those who wish to register for a Clipper card in person can visit one of the special sign-up events that begin Wednesday.
Seniors can sign up at the SFMTA Customer Service Office, located at 11 S. Van Ness Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The SFMTA Presidio Sales Kiosk, at 949 Presidio Ave., will also be available Wednesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, seniors can visit two Walgreens stores - at 825 Market St. and 1524 Polk St. -- from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Hop-Hing Ginseng Co., located at 1027 Stockton St. in Chinatown, will be hosting a sign-up event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday.
