The paychecks of San Jose city leaders will be a little lighter. Tuesday, the City Council approved a recommendation to cut the salaries and benefits for themselves and Mayor Chuck Reed.

The move lowers Reed's salary from $127,000 to $114,000 and council members' pay will fall from $90,000 to $81,000.

Last week, the City Council voted to cut pay and benefits for four city unions in an effort to help reduce the city's $115 million deficit.
