Arson investigation after two fires in Berkeley

BERKELEY, Calif.

Police officers were the first to respond to a fire at a home in the 500 block of Cragmont Avenue at around 12:45 a.m.

The officers found a resident attempting to extinguish a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames in the driveway and the garage had also caught on fire, the dispatcher said.

Another resident and the family pet were evacuated from the home, according to the fire dispatcher.

As firefighters responded to the blaze, they spotted another fire at a home in the 400 block of Cragmont Avenue.

The residents of that home were sheltered in place and both fires were extinguished, the dispatcher said.

No injuries were reported.
