Firefighters extinguish boat fire in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif.

Firefighters used fire extinguishers to control the flames of the burning garbage on a powerboat located in waters near Swan Way and Doolittle Drive at about 4:20 a.m., a fire dispatcher said.

Although small, the one-alarm fire proved challenging because the boat was inaccessible and firefighters could not use fire hoses to put out the blaze, according to the Oakland Fire Department.

The Oakland Fire Department controlled the fire, but the debris was still smoldering as of about 6 a.m., and crews were working to quell the smoke.
