Now that New York's Anthony Weiner is out of Congress, Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., is taking up legislation that Weiner originally sponsored to extend COBRA benefits to same-sex couples.

COBRA gives workers the right to access their employer-provided health care benefits for up to 36 months after they lose their job. The bill would apply to companies that already offer health coverage to domestic partners and their children.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., has introduced a similar bill in the Senate.
