Trains delayed due to incident in Richmond

RICHMOND, Calif.

Emergency units responded to the train tracks near Carlson and Cutting boulevards at about 7:15 a.m., Richmond fire Battalion Chief Merlin Turner said.

One victim was struck by southbound Capitol Corridor train No. 723 as it was heading from Sacramento to San Jose, Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulm said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Turner said. No one on the train was injured. The passengers were deboarded and put on Amtrak buses, Kulm said.

Tracks through the area remained closed at 9:30 a.m. while police and fire continued their investigation.

As many as eight trains expected to travel through Richmond today will likely be affected by delays, Kulm said.

Passengers are encouraged to call Amtrak before traveling at 1 (800) USA-RAIL.
