Hector Garcia was arranged after being charged with murder. Garcia, along with Salvador Valasco, are accused of killing 21-year-old Monica Rodas and dumping her body in a Rockridge neighborhood, then setting her body on fire.
Rodas' mother was in court on Thursday and spoke about the last day she spent with her daughter.
"Everything was normal," Maria Alfaro said. "We spent Wednesday the 13th in perfect harmony. Happy together like mother and daughter without knowing that it would be the last day I would see my daughter alive."
Police say Rodas appeared to have been beaten before her body was set on fire, but they still do not know the motive for the attack.
