Comatose man wakes, goes missing, lapses back into coma

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

Joshua Carroll, 28, was being cared for by his mother who said the man suffers from seizure disorders. Carroll's mother has been feeding the comatose man from a tube for the past three months.

For some reason, Carroll awoke from his coma on Thursday and walked outside. While his mother was talking on the phone with his doctor he disappeared.

"He sat on the couch and I told him he needed to eat, or let me feed him," Cheryl Carroll said.

Thursday evening, Carroll was found five miles from his home. Carroll had collapsed and was in a catatonic state when he was discovered.

An ambulance drove Carroll to the nearby U.C. Davis Medical Center. Officials have not yet released his condition.
