Mt. Diablo School District year may be shortened

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Calif.

The fewer days are part of a proposed teacher's contract the trustees will review in tonight's meeting. The contract calls for seven furlough days, with five of those school days.

If approved, it would make the school year 175 days. The state average is 180 days.

A staff report to be presented to the trustees agrees with the proposal, saying the district wants to negotiate a shortened work year in light of budget deficits.
