FBI trains dive team for underwater terror threats

SAN FRANCISCO

The Technical Dive Team formed one year ago in response to terror threats that would use water as a means of attack.

Members are now being diver-certified down to there hundred feet, and they're training to collect evidence in aquatic environments too polluted or contaminated for anyone else.

"You look at various international incidents when there's attacks on American civilians, or it's attacks n American interests where water has been involved," said James Tullbane with the FBI. "We determined that we really do need to expand our capabilities."

So far, the team has one mission under its belt: Recovering 15,000 pounds of cocaine from a mini-submarine sunk by suspected drug smugglers off the coast of Honduras.
