San Francisco police had closed Geary between Polk and Van Ness for a few minutes while they went inside the vacant Charlie's Hotel. About 20 officers in riot gear removed banners and other belongings. Police say those inside were going to be arrested for trespassing, but they found only one inside.
"The plan going forward to occupy it for as long as it's available to us and to keep it open for others that need housing and need shelter for as long as possible," said Jeremy Miller, a homeless activist.
Earlier, the tactical unit went inside another occupied that building Monday night, the Cathedral Hill Hotel, but after three hours of searching, they found no one inside.
The protest began with a march on Monday for World Homeless Action Day.
Sutter Health owns both of the occupied properties and operates the California Pacific Medical Center, which is planning a billion dollar health care facility at the Cathedral Hill Hotel site.
