Curfew sweep nets one dozen minors in Antioch

Police working with REACH Project Inc. detained 10 minors between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. who were out in the city, which violates a city ordinance that says juveniles cannot be in public areas between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. every day.

The 10 youth were brought to a processing center at the police department and turned over to staff of the REACH Project, where they were counseled and then released to their parents or guardians, police said.

REACH is a program designed to reduce the number of minors out after curfew. It intends to provide a supportive rather than punitive service, according to police.

As part of the program, the minors found will attend follow-up juvenile diversion services, which include decision-making skills training and treatment for alcohol and other drug abuse.
