Fire damages abandoned Victorian home

SAN JOSE, Calif.

The fire at a home in the area of South Seventh Street and Santa Clara Avenue was reported just before 8 p.m., Capt. Michael Van Elgort said.

When firefighters arrived, flames were burning through the roof. Firefighters were able to knock the two-alarm blaze down in 18 minutes, he said.

Firefighters were concerned about the blaze reaching the occupied structures on either side of the building, which didn't happen, he said.

The exact address of the building is still being determined. Since the structure was abandoned, fire crews believe the house numbers may have been removed.

There was no injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Since the home was vacant and there was no electricity, it is considered suspicious, Van Elgort said.
