San Jose's police officers have approved a deal that extends a 10 percent pay cut through the next fiscal year as a way to keep some cops from getting pink slips.

The police officer's association says the deal passed by a vote of 441 to 317.

The city asked the officers to take a pay cut in order to avoid layoffs in the police department.

Both sides continue to negotiate a revised pension package.
