Attorney General Kamala Harris has been investigating Freddie Mae and Freddie Mac's involvement in around 12,000 foreclosed properties in the state where the companies were acting as the landlords.
The lawsuits ask the mortgage firms to respond to more than 60 investigative subpoenas that demand the companies identify the homes they foreclosed on.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac representatives say they don't comment on active lawsuits.
