Memorial to be held for San Francisco homeless

SAN FRANCISCO

The annual memorial, organized by the Coalition on Homelessness and San Francisco Network Ministries, honors the lives of homeless community members that might otherwise go unnoticed, organizers said. The event has taken place for more than 15 years.

Representatives of several religions will participate in the memorial, which will involve singing, chanting, prayer, and a reading of the names of the individuals who died.

The memorial is traditionally held on the winter solstice because, according to organizers, it represents the coldest, darkest time for the homeless population.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend tonight's event, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Civic Center Plaza across from City Hall.
