Review reveals mistakes at Golden Gate National Cemetery

SAN FRANCISCO

Following up on an audit made public in January, the Veterans Administration now reports finding 33 incorrect headstones and 18 unmarked graves at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno. Another 48 incorrect headstones were discovered at the Presidio.

According to the audit, the headstones got mixed up as the cemeteries were being expanded and some coffins were moved.

The VA insists that, despite the mix-ups, all remains are where they're supposed to be.
