Southwest Airlines raises fares to cover jet fuel

Southwest is raising fares by $4 to $10 per round trip and the airline is not alone, several other big carriers are jumping on the bandwagon too.

United Airlines, Delta, American, U.S. Airways and others are all confirming they are matching the Southwest increase.

According to government figures, spot prices for jet fuel are up 12 percent so far in 2012.

If fuel prices continue to rise, some airline could be forced to cut flights.
