2 injured in five-car crash on Golden Gate Bridge

The accident occurred around 8:20 a.m. and a Sig-alert was issued at 8:38 a.m. after traffic backed up in both directions.

CHP Officer Eric Hohmeister said traffic had slowed on the bridge and a northbound driver rear-ended another car, causing a chain-reaction crash that involved a total of five northbound vehicles.

Traffic was snarled as tow trucks and ambulances tried to make their way to the scene and other drivers slowed to watch the commotion, he said.

The five cars involved were moved out of the northbound lanes to Vista Point, and lanes reopened at 9:05 a.m.

The collisions caused minor injuries to two people, one of whom was transported to Marin General Hospital, Hohmeister said.
