Thinking of texting can increase likelihood of crashes

Just thinking about sending a text is enough to increase a young driver's likelihood of getting into an accident.

Researchers surveyed almost 400 undergraduate students at the University of Washington and found a very modest 1 percent increase in car crashes among those who spent a lot of time thinking about texting or talking on their cellphone.

A separate study of 15-to-18 year olds shows those who texted as they drove were up to eight times more likely to drift between lanes.
