According to the Wall Street Journal, the Cupertino company has ordered 4 inch screens from suppliers.
Until now, Apple has never changed the size of the iPhone's screen since its debut in 2007; it's always been 3.5 inches.
Production on the new iPhone is set to begin next month. Apple is expected to debut the new phone later this year.
Apple has not commented.
