Relationship scammers take thousands from victims

This is really sad. Authorities say each year people are scammed out of $50 million in so called "relationship scams".

A case in point -- a 70 year old woman who lost nearly $225,000 looking for love on an internet dating service. After six months of emails and phone calls, the man began asking for money up to $50,000 at a time for reasons ranging for medical issues to starting a purse business.

Family members finally realized what was going on and intervened. That family didn't want to talk, but another victim who fell for a similar scam sure does.

"He really played on my emotions because told me his wife died in a car accident and his son didn't have a mother, and how he really wanted to have a mother for his son," said Linda Trivisomo, a scam victim.

So far neither scammer has been caught. So be forewarned.
