18-year-old shot in leg near Oakland High School

OAKLAND, Calif.

At the southeast corner of the high school, students usually gather to get picked up by their ride after school or to catch the bus. That's where witnesses say a gunman came to the corner, shot a student in the upper thigh and ran off. Students say an ambulance happened to be in the area so they responded within one minute, grabbed the student, put him into the ambulance, and took him to the hospital where he is in stable condition.

Students say there was a lockdown for about an hour shortly after the shooting.

Oakland police are still looking for the suspect involved the shooting. Authorities are looking for an African-American male with dreadlocks, who appeared to be a teenager. The motive for the shooting is unknown.

This is the third gun-related incident at Oakland High School this year. One of them happened just last March when a student brought a gun to school and it went off in a classroom, but no one was hurt.
