13 hospitals in CA fined over injuries to patients

The fines come under the title of 'administrative penalties.' They range from feeding tube to cardiac paging systems violations. One hospital was cited for having a patient undergo another surgery to retrieve something left inside him.

The following hospitals received penalties:

1.Chapman Medical Center, Orange, Orange County: The hospital failed to protect the patient from sexual misconduct. The penalty is $75,000. This is the hospital's second administrative penalty.

2.Chinese Hospital, San Francisco, San Francisco County: The hospital failed to implement its established policies and procedures for feeding tube insertion. The penalty is $50,000. This is the hospital's first administrative penalty.

3.Community Regional Medical Center, Fresno, Fresno County: The hospital failed to ensure the health and safety of a patient when it did not follow established policies and procedures for the safe and effective administration of medication. The penalty is $50,000. This is the hospital's first administrative penalty.

4.Kaiser Foundation Hospital – Oakland/Richmond, Oakland, Alameda County: The hospital failed to ensure the health and safety of a patient when it did not follow established policies and procedures relating to their cardiac paging system. The penalty is $75,000. This is the hospital's second administrative penalty.

5.Kaiser Foundation Hospital – San Diego, San Diego, San Diego County: The hospital failed to ensure the health and safety of a patient when it did not follow surgical policies and procedures. This resulted in a patient having to undergo a second surgery to remove a retained foreign object. The penalty is $50,000. This is the hospital's first administrative penalty.

12.Southwest Healthcare System, Murrieta, Riverside County: The hospital failed to ensure the health and safety of a patient when it did not follow policies and procedures to provide emergency measures to protect a patient. The penalty is $100,000. This is the hospital's eighth administrative penalty.

13.University of California, San Diego Medical Center, San Diego, San Diego County: The hospital failed to ensure the health and safety of a patient when the hospital did not provide considerate and respectful care. The penalty is $75,000. This is the hospital's fourth administrative penalty.
