Windy conditions hinder efforts to contain brush fire

The fire, which broke out around 1:30 p.m., forced the closure of the Bayshore Boulevard off-ramp from northbound Highway 101.

Wind was a major factor all day and knocked down power lines, causing outages that affected about 1,500 people.

The downed power lines may have been a factor, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The flames did threaten homes but there were no evacuations or shelter-in-place orders issued. There were no injuries.

"At this point we have crews that are in and around the area of the homes that are being protected and there's no damage to homes at this point," said North County Fire Authority spokesman Matt Lucett.

Two air tankers and a helicopter made several drops of fire retardant throughout the afternoon.

About 70 firefighters from North County Fire, Cal Fire, San Mateo County and South San Francisco worked to contain the blaze.
