The Assembly Judiciary Committee unanimously approved a bill that would ban colleges from requesting such information. A similar bill covering employers will be taken up tomorrow in the state Senate. Both bills are authored by state Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, and Assm. Nora Campos, D-San Jose.
The bills came after revelations that businesses and schools were requesting the information from job applicants, employees and students.
