$1,000 reward offered in SJ arson investigation

SAN JOSE, Calif.

The two early morning fires damaged two buildings and displaced 20 people. Both fires started in recycling bins set against the homes and investigators believe they were deliberately set. Their $500 reward was matched by local city officials, so the reward is now $1,000.

"The fires that we're talking about over the last few days are very dangerous. They're close to residences. They threaten not just property, but real families here in San Jose. If you have any information regarding how these fires may have been set, please come forward. It's very important. Lives are in danger," said San Jose Firefighters President Robert Sapian.

Investigators say a similar trashcan fire was reported on June 19 on Coy Drive. So far, they have not identified a suspect.
