Government proposes new pet travel restrictions

The U.S. Department of transportation is proposing new rules to protect the animals. The government wants to require 36 airlines to keep track of deaths and injuries to pets that fly. Currently, only 15 airlines must report those statistics.

In the first four months of this year, 12 pets have died and 14 were reported injured, just among those 15 airlines. The Humane Society recommends not putting a pet in a cargo hold.

Many airlines let you carry a small pet onboard if it will fit under a seat.
