Food labeling proposition headed to Calif. ballot

Proposition 37 on the November ballot requires labeling for crops with altered DNA.

Supporters worry about health effects saying you have a right to know what you're eating. However opponents say labeling will just raise food prices.

"Biotechnology in food or genetically engineered food is safe," genetic labeling opponent Kathy Fairbanks said. "It's healthy, it's safe. The overwhelming majority of the scientific community has found it's safe

Opponents say labeling will burden small farmers.

If the measure passes, California will become the only state requiring labels on engineered food.
