A prominent Peninsula child psychiatrist accused of molesting his patients has been declared mentally-stable enough for a retrial. The San Mateo County district attorney's office confirmed that Wednesday.

80-year-old William Ayres has been at Napa State Hospital since last year when he was diagnosed with dementia. He'll be sent back to San Mateo County to face trial on nine felony counts of molesting boys who were referred to him for treatment in the 1990s.

A jury deadlocked in 2009 on all the molestation charges against Ayres.
