It's hard to complain about living in the Bay Area. But, when it comes to cities with a high "cool" factor, we apparently have some catching up to do.

According to a ranking released by Forbes.com, Houston, Texas took the top spot in being the "coolest" city to live in the United States.

Washington DC, Los Angeles, Dallas and Seattle rounded out the top five "cool" cities. San Francisco came in 9th and Oakland came in 16th.

Forbes ranked each city based on its ethnic diversity, cultural activities, and affordability for young professionals.
